When the long Darkness spreads itself over the country, many hidden things are revealed, and men’s thoughts travel along devious paths.

Winter: Elegy for a disappearing season is a lyrical documentary film, exploring the question, how does winter shape who we are – and as it disappears, how will it change us?
The film’s approach is subtle and poetic, encountering characters in different corners of the world, capturing scenes and details of winter – and ultimately, becoming a meditation on something more interior. Speed skaters in Hokkaido, reindeer herders traversing a forest at night, city streets in the glow of a streetlamp, transformed by snow: its imagery is crystalline and delicate. The result is a reflection on winter as a metaphor: for hibernation, darkness, moments of silence and solitude, fallow times.
